Presented by:

Nevada Governor's Office of Energy

Kelly Thomas

Energy Program Manager, Ext.7357

Mr. Thomas joined the Governor's Office of Energy in May 2016. He heads the agency's Energy Efficiency Programs within the Office, providing direction and oversight to the Home Energy Retrofit Opportunity for Seniors (HEROS), Green Building Tax Abatement and State Owned Building Benchmarking programs. He was most recently the Executive Director of the U.S. Green Building Council Nevada Community in Las Vegas. Most notably, he oversaw the Nevada Sustainable Energy Coalition (NSEC) and the creation of the inaugural Nevada Battle of the Buildings competition through ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager®. Mr. Thomas has a diverse background spanning nearly 20 years of promoting a sustainably built environment in industries such as Construction Project Management, Architecture & Design and Business Administration. After transferring from the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), his commitment to the implementation of sustainable building principles started upon graduating from the School of Architecture at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV) in 1997. He earned his joint Bachelor of Science Degree in Landscape Architecture and Business Administration. His passion for sustainability quickly became public, when in 1999, he served as a State Assemblyman in the Nevada State Legislature. He introduced initiatives relative to Smart Growth, creating the Nevada Center for Sustainable Living (NCSL) and a Public Building Recycling mandate, with the latter being successful. He is also a baseball fanatic and has visited 20 of the Major League Baseball ball parks to date.
