Event Narrative:

The Southern Nevada Recycling Center is the largest and smartest residential recycling center in North America. The 110,000 square foot facility is home to highly advanced, state-of-the-art recycling technologies. The Center serves almost 550,000 households throughout the area, including the cities of North Las Vegas, Las Vegas, Henderson, and Clark County.

Recycling by the numbers:

• 70 tons - Recyclables (per hour!) the center can process
• 2,000,000 pounds - Materials processed through the facility...per day!
• 3 minutes - Time it takes to process the contents of a fully loaded truck
• 1,300 - Number of employees working for Republic Services of Southern Nevada

The architecture of the building was engineered using recycled and repurposed materials, and features various elements of sustainability throughout the facility. More than 75% of the building is made from recycled and remanufactured steel. The Center features a large photovoltaic rooftop solar energy system comprised of 1,776 panels which offsets about 15% of it's power consumption.
